One strategy he suggests is natural to find their own solutions for articles that were already at home – like lemons, vinegar and borax.
Here are recipes for mixing your own house cleaning the natural way to Real Simple. Cheap and effective, these recipes will help you get a boost in their spring cleaning while doing less damage to the environment.
Vinegar
Coffee: Pour equal parts vinegar and water in the water tank of the machine, then turn the brew cycle. Halfway, stop the coffee and let the solution stand for about an hour. To turn again to complete the cycle, then run several cycles of clean water.
Windows: Mix ¼ cup vinegar, 2 cups of water and a squirt of liquid Castile soap in a spray bottle. Windows Spritz and wipe with a sheet of paper.
Dishwashers: To disinfect the inside of the machine, pour ½ cup of vinegar in the tank and start a dry cycle, “says Hunter. Or place a small container of vinegar in the bottom rack and run a vacuum cycle.
Lemon
Countertops: Dip the cut side of lemon in the middle of baking soda to face the counter, wipe with a damp sponge and dry. Do not use on sensitive stone such as marble or stainless steel (may discolor).
Cutting boards: To remove stains from hard foods from light wood and plastic boards, cut a lemon in half, press the soiled surface, rub and let rest 20 minutes before rinsing.
Plates: To increase the power of cutting fat from your dishwashing liquid, add a teaspoon of lemon juice.
Sodium bicarbonate
Gardening tools: Dip a toothbrush bristles of the brush wet washing soda to brush clippers, scissors, and more. Rinse, then place in a sunny spot to dry. (Do not use tools aluminum soda.)
Barbecues and utensils: To fight against the stubborn grease stains, dip a stiff brush and rub wet ash away.
Walls scraped: Erase pencil marks by applying a paste of baking soda (equal parts of baking soda and water) with white walls (sodium bicarbonate can buff walls). Allow to dry before brushing with a clean cloth.
Borax
Baseboards, countertops and walls: Dissolve 1 / 2 cup borax in 1 gallon of warm water and pour the solution into a spray bottle (which can be saved for later use). Spritz liberally, wipe with a damp cloth and let air dry.
